Flumist is recommended for healthy, non-pregnant adults less than 50 years old, including health care workers. EMS providers can be vaccinated with Flumist influenza vaccine. It is not necessary to use respiratory protection by the EMS provider after Flumist vaccination to prevent spread of the live virus to a patient. An EMS provider vaccinated with Flumist should avoid transporting a patient know to have severe immunocomprise (e.g., bone marrow transplant) for seven days post vaccination with Flumist. Patients with lesser degrees of immunocompromise (e.g., patients on steroids or with HIV) are not at risk.
